Some special dietary fiber promote weight loss.

Dietary fiber includes substances such as:

  • Cellulose
  • Hemicellulose
  • Pectins
  • Gums
  • Lignin

Dietary fiber has many nutritional benefits for the health of the gastrointestinal tract.

Insoluble dietary fiber, such as cellulose and many hemicelluloses, are not efficiently fermented in the colon.

As a result, they:

  • Provide fecal bulk
  • Bind water
  • Help soften stools

Soluble dietary fiber, such as pectin, many gums, and some hemicelluloses, are fermented in the colon to varying degrees.

This results in:

  • Lower colonic pH (acidity)
  • Production of short chain fatty acids ( important for the intestinal microflora)

Many insoluble and soluble fiber types bind dietary cholesterol and bile acids in the intestine. Most types of dietary fiber, when hydrated, contribute substantially to the volume of stomach contents and help provide a feeling of fullness.

Fiber-Plex was formulated to take advantage of all of the physiological benefits of fiber by combining a wide variety of insoluble, non-fermentable and soluble, fermentable natural fiber sources. Glucomannan is a partially fermentable, soluble fiber extracted from the konjac root (yam family). This hemicellulose fiber is noted for its high water-binding capacity, and may have a beneficial role in cholesterol metabolism. Fiber- Plex provides both types of naturally occurring pectins: high- and low-methoxyl pectins. Slippery elm powder supplies a number of gums and mucilages that are important for the mucous lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

PGX fiber (another brand with glucomannan) offers benefits for those seeking to lose weight. Studies show that supplementing with glucomannan enhances the weight-loss effects of a calorie-restricted diet. Glucomannan may promote weight loss in obese adults, even in the absence of a calorie-restricted diet. When obese adults consumed 1 gram of glucomannan fiber one hour before each meal for eight weeks, they lost an average of 5.5 pounds of body weight—with no other changes to their eating or exercise patterns.

PGX  is a proprietary blend of glucomannan, xanthan gum, and sodium alginate. This fiber reduces harmful cholesterol and LDL, slows carbohydrate absorption, and promotes weight loss.

A good lifestyle personal trainer/nutrition consultant will incorporate PGX fiber or fiber-plex in your weight loss (fat loss) program

Muscle fiber

Slow twitch fiber carries out long-duration, lower-intensity efforts like cardio (jogging, walking) Fast twitch muscle fiber is white, because it contains no oxygen-carrying blood. It performs the anaerobic (zero-oxygen) muscle contractions. Red fiber, […]
