Hormones

Most nutritionist, doctors and personal trainers overlook the effects of hormones.

As a result, people try to eat less and excercise more.  This does not need to be the case.  Hormones are another very powerful tool in your natural weight loss.

Before we get into the fat burning hormones, I just want to go over what hormones can do in the first place.  Here is a brief primer on hormones and how they affect your weight and fat.

In my 8 principles for healthy aging, your hormones will be perfectly balanced in order to feel and to look amazing.

But you must also combine:

The vicious cycle (chicken and egg scenario)

  • Is junk  food disrupting your hormones or are your hormones making you crave junk food?
  • Is your lack of working out making you feel like eating  bad food? or does junk food make you hate working out?

In the last 50 years, our hormone balance has been disrupted by the dramatic dietary change that we adopted, like:

  • Low fat diet
  • Huge increased intake of sugar
  • Refined carbohydrates
  • Chemicals
  • Xenoestrogens
  • Pesticides
  • etc.

Hormones regulate almost everything:

  • Heartbeat
  • Breathing
  • Blood pressure
  • Energy
  • Mood
  • Weight
  • etc…

My 8 principles for healthy aging will improve your hormones balance.

According to medical authorities at least 10 hormones in your body are responsible for poor aging and weight gain. Some, like insulin, are crucial to many aspects of your daily living, while others, like sex hormones, are less critical, but they all affect how you:

  • Age
  • Look
  • Feel

Our modern diet have messed up all the hormones that play a role in weight loss and health :

  • Alcohol
  • Sugar
  • Refined carbohydrate
  • Soda
  • Fat-free food
  • Refined vegetable oil
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Trans-fat

There is a dozen of hormones that control weight loss and health aging:

  1. Insulin
  2. Glucagon
  3. Leptin
  4. Thyroid
  5. Human Growth Hormone
  6. Cortisol
  7. DHEA
  8. Estrogen
  9. Progesterone
  10. Testosterone
  11. Pregnenolone
  12. Prolactin

Best hormonal profile for healthy aging:

  • High free testosterone/low SHBG
  • Low estrogen for men, Good ratio estrogen/progesterone for women
  • Ideal ratio 2/16 hydroxy estrone
  • Medium low cortisol ( too low can be as bad as too high)
  • Low insulin
  • Medium high growth hormone ( high IGF1 is linked to cancer)
  • Optimal free T3-T4 (thyroid)

Worst hormonal profile for premature aging:

  • Low free testosterone ( bound to SHBG)
  • High estrogen for men, estrogen/progesterone imbalance for women
  • High cortisol
  • High insulin
  • Low growth hormone
  • Suboptimal levels T3-T4 (thyroid)

This profile will result in insulin resistance, and will cause weight gain around the waist because your body will  store fat rather than burn it.

Fat around the waist will promote even more estrogen and more insulin resistance.

You are trapped in a vicious cycle, and consequences are:

  • Weight gain
  • Impossibility to lose weight
  • Loss of hair
  • Looking older than you are
  • Bad skin
  • Insomnia
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Erectile dysfunction and loss of libido
  • Heart disease, stroke, cancer
  • etc.

Unfortunately, most weight loss programs overlook hormonal and metabolic evaluation, it is not uncommon for hormonal imbalances or deficiency to cause:

  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Poor aging
  • Muscle loss
  • Osteoporosis
  • Mood swings
  • Water retention
  • Depression
  • etc.

Why do most doctors lack information about natural hormones?

  • Bio-identical hormones cannot be patented because they are natural
  • Drug companies have no interest in these products; They would rather hold a patent on a drug that could be exclusively marketed and sold to the masses.
  • Physicians have limited opportunities to learn about them (too busy, lack of motivation, brainwashed by pharmaceutical influences)

In my 8 lifestyle training principles program, hormones will play an important part in your success.

However, obese people may believe that an imbalance in their hormones may be causing the weight problem, but it has been clearly documented such conditions only affect a small percentage of the obese population and in fact, most overweight people simply eat too much.

As a lifestyle personal trainer and nutrition consultant, I will refer you to a local integrative physicians who will evaluate your hormone levels and work to rebalance them.
